WCW Thunder After playing WCW Nitro for the PSX, I really wasn't going to get my hopes up about this game. And I'm glad I didn't because most everything about this game is wrong, wrong, WRONG! It's not like in WWF Warzone, where you find yourself saying, "why couldn't they fix that?" and "if only....". WCW Thunder really needed a complete make-over, and true fans of the genre appreciate game-play over FMV's. One would also have to wonder why they would base a wrestling game on a second rate television program like WCW Thunder; but that question stands trivial to the other problems that in the game.

Let's start with the good. FMV's. If it weren't for these babies the game wouldn't even be worth renting. Lot's of funny stuff in the rants, the notible ones to check out are: Alex Wright's, "If you wanna see what a real German looks like, then Pick Alex Wright". Kevin Nash's "Look, you don't have the charisma or dexterity to play me, so just pick somebody else...go on..next person". Chris Jericho's, "Pick me, the master of the Jericholics, your hero and paragon of Virtue, and you will never E-E-E-E-E-VER lose this game again." Rowdy Piper's, "Well Nash told you not to pick him, SO PICK MEEEEE!!! Don't pick Hogan, I've put him in the sleeper three times...." And of course Ultimo Dragon's 27 lines of Japenese jibberish.

The FMV entrances with real life theme music for each wrestler in real audio really help build up the look and feel of this game. Thunder has most of the option that you would want in a wrestling game. Packed with a handful of play modes, ranging from a World or United States heavyweight championship to Tag Team play to Battle Royal and Cage Matches, Thunder mimics the real deal to a tee. Players can pick up to 32 regular wrestlers with whom to slaughter ( 32 bonus, totaling 64 in all ). There are 11 total modes from which to choose from. Now that I've gone over the good, yes that's everything, let's take a look all the obvious bads and faults that make this game so horrible.

Can you even tell what the hell is going on in this picture? The first thing that you will notice when playing WCW Thunder, is how dark the arena's are. The graphics seem to have a ridged texture to it, and alot of things could have been polished over more. The control is another major problem in the game. I happen to like the grappling system that Revenge provides, as opposed to this arcade type feel with button combination and life meters. Just trying to move your character around is such a pain in the ass. And unless you know all the button combinations for each wrestler, you basically stuck with alot of button mashing resulting in either a powerbomb, piledriver, or an abdominal stretch. Each player is supplied with a list of moves, but 4 or 5 at most, which is pretty pathetic. On top of all this crap they had the most un-charismatic wrestler in the biz today, Bill Goldberg, doing the commercial's for it.

The game WCW Thunder never really captivated my interest for a long period of time, but there is at least a few weeks worth of stuff in here to keep your interest.

Control- Well this really depends on the player's opinion. If you like the button combination feel then here is your game. If you like the grappling touch, like myself, then don't even bother.
-CONTROL - 1.5

Sound- Some basic audio stuff, but the announcer's are flat out un-inspired, as often forget there even there.
-SOUND - 5.5

Graphics- Thunder gives you a rough ridged look and dark arena's, making this game just a blurry vision, (pun intended) as opposed to Revenge's polished over look.
-GRAPHICS - 4.5

Gameplay- This is the game's weakest point everything from player movement to camera angles made me grow tired of this game. Not even a very fun multi-player game, which in the long run, is a problem for alot of games. I really could have cared less if I won or lost against my friends, because I always had the excuse that I wasn't the idiot that bought the game.
-GAMEPLAY - -20

OVERALL- After hearing everything that I've said coming from a the everyday teenager, there is no honest reason to buy the game. Of course, if you are in the unfortunate position of owning the PSX, ONLY. Well then the game is definetly worth the rental. This game is so bad I hope the people at Inland learn a lesson and LOSE money. I give it a 4.
